AMOLED vs MIP / Solar Garmin Watch Faces
Understand AMOLED and MIP / Solar watch-face preview differences, and check exact compatibility, readability and AOD support before buying.
Identify the screen as well as the watch family
Similarly named watches may use different display technologies. Check the specifications of your exact model, then compare the watch-face product page and Connect IQ device list. Solar is one part of a model name; the complete model is still needed to confirm support.
A colour preview cannot represent every screen
Gold textures, gradients, detailed figures and small lettering can look different across displays, resolutions and brightness settings. Prefer previews for the relevant version and install a trial on your watch. With Chinese figurative designs, check that the main time display remains easy to read.
Check AOD and the resting layout separately
The active and resting screens may use different layouts. AOD availability, visible information and brightness depend on the design version and watch settings. Do not assume an active promotional image shows the resting appearance on every supported device.
Decide after a trial on your own watch
Check time readability, essential data, artwork and controls before purchasing permanent activation. If you are unsure about a Solar or MIP version, send the creator your exact model through support first. You do not need to pay simply to ask whether a version is compatible.
